Creative Writing for Beginners

The next course date for Creative Writing for Beginners is Sunday, November 2nd, 10 am – 1 pm

Course Venue St Peter’s Centre, (Turn at Coach Inn), Dublin Road, Bray (Upstairs in Centre.)

 

Course Outline

The aim of this course is to get you started writing stories and give you the confidence, verve and enthusiasm to keep writing in the future.

Getting Started: We’ll talk about where to get ideas, developing ideas into the story, main do’s and don’ts, essential elements of storytelling.

Just write: The emphasis of this morning course will be to actually get you writing using prompts and a variety of writing exercises.

Confidence and Enthusiasm: How to find the fun in writing. I’ll give you tips on how to keep motivated and keep up your writing confidence, how to deal with feedback and criticism, and how to measure your achievements.

There will be some writing handouts and resources to take away with you.

Course will include a break for tea and coffee.

Tutor: As a psychology and communications graduate and over the course of several years writing I’ve developed a great interest in the techniques and psychology of motivation and creativity. As a mother of four I have personal experience of juggling a busy life with creative writing. I’ve had stories published in literary journals and anthologies in Ireland (Crannóg, The Stinging Fly, New Planet Cabaret etc) and abroad (Two National Flash Fiction anthologies in UK, Deck the Halls and Eighty Nine in Australia, Literary Orphans in Chicago, and online Metazen, The View From Here etc) and been nominated for the Hennessy New Irish Writing Prize and shortlisted for the Bridport and Fish and other prizes.
